Betty, 82, was recovering from a stroke and a severe internal infection when the Voices Lifted singers came to her group home. Betty also suffers from dementia and ataxia, which makes it hard for her to clearly put her thoughts into words. Her daughter described this interview as the most lucid conversation Betty has had in a long time.

Anne, 70, an avid hiker and photographer, is used to an active, independent lifestyle. When the Voices Lifted singers performed for her, once after knee surgery and once after intestinal surgery, she was queasy from anesthesia and antsy after being confined to a bed. Anne requested lively, upbeat songs, which she said helped to quickly lift her spirits.

Barbara, 56, has been a member of Voices Lifted for two years. Before joining the group, she was less than confident about her singing ability. Now, after singing at several bedsides and witnessing the gratitude with which patients and their family members have received her songs, Barbara has much more faith in the power her voice has to heal.
